Trenton is a tiny town located in Edgefield County in west-central South Carolina near the Georgia border. The population is approximately 230 residents. Trenton began in the late 1860s with the arrival of the Charlotte-Columbia-Augusta Railroad. The small community had previously been known as "Pine House" due to the Piney Woods Tavern located here, which was a stagecoach stop. Even President George Washington dined at the tavern in 1791 on his way from Augusta to Columbia. Today, a marker stands near the intersection of S.C. Highway 121, 19, and 25 to memorialize his visit. The town also has several historic homes, including the home and store of the town's founder, James Monroe Wise, built in 1879. Other historic buildings include Ebenezer Baptist Church (c. 1871) located on the corner of Wise Street and Airport Road. Located at the church is the gravesite of Governor Benjamin Ryan ("Pitchfork Ben") Tillman, who was a United States Senator during the administration of Woodrow Wilson. It's a very picturesque cemetery, with aged, wrought iron fences and moss-covered statuary. The town of Trenton is probably most well-known for being home to the Annual Ridge Peach Festival. For over 40 years, the festival offers arts and crafts, live entertainment, a parade, hands-on demonstrations, such as spoon carving and blacksmiths, and lots of delicious food, including handmade peach pies, preserves, jellies and jams. The Ridge Peach Festival is usually held in mid-June.

East central Georgia, along the coast, has a humid subtropical climate with mild winters and hot, humid summers. In winter, snow flurries are an occasional sight, although the area does not get as much snowfall as Atlanta. This region, near the city of Augusta, is lower in elevation, near the coast, which is largely the reason for less snowfall. Freezing rain is a threat in the wintertime, however. The average high temperature in winter is 58 and the average low is 34. Summer daytime temperatures are often in the 90s and can soar as high as 100 or above.
