Isle-of-Palms
is a barrier island located off the coast of South Carolina, less than twenty minutes from the city of Charleston. Since 2002, the Isle of Palms has been named a Blue Wave Beach by the Clean Beaches Council, and is the first in South Carolina to receive the designation. With six miles of gorgeous white sandy beaches, the Isle of Palms is thought to be at least 25,000 years old and was first inhabited by the Seewee Indians. In the late 19th century it was discovered by locals from nearby Charleston who began visiting to escape the summer heat of the city. The development of the Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms began in 1972, and in 1981 TENNIS Magazine named it one of the "Top 50 Tennis Resorts in the Country," a ranking it still holds today. The Links Golf Course, designed by Tom Fazio, was opened in 1980 and soon GOLF Magazine ranked it among the best in the world. The Harbor Course, Fazio's second Isle of Palms course, soon followed and in 1988 GOLF Magazine awarded Wild Dunes The Gold Medal, which placed it among the top 12 golf resorts in America. Along with world-class golf and tennis, swimming and other beach activities, kayaking, bicycling, a fitness center, marina and pools, fine dining - all are available at the spectacular Wild Dunes Resort. In addition, the city of Charleston with its' historic homes, galleries and boutiques, diverse restaurants and Old City Market is just minutes from the Isle of Palms, making the island an ideal family vacation destination.

Mid-point, along the coastline of South Carolina, has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid and winters are mild. The area receives a significant amount of rainfall year-round. Summer is the wettest season with almost half the annual precipitation occurring during this time. Thunderstorms are possible in the spring and summer. Winters are short with occasional rain. Snow flurries are possible in the winter, but rare. Hurricanes are a major threat to this area during the summer and early fall. The most notable one in recent history was Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Plenty of warning is generally given to residents prior to hurricanes, giving them time to prepare.
