Mount-Pleasant
is a very historic city, located northeast of the Cooper River across the harbor from the city of Charleston. This pleasant town is home to many attractions, including a weekly Farmers Market every Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. 'till dark that offers fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, pies, breads and more, along with live music and other entertainment. Several special events are held in Mount Pleasant throughout the year, including the Lowcountry Oyster Festival in January, the annual Blessing of the Fleet Seafood Festival in April and the Scottish Games and Highland Gathering, usually held in September. Just a few of the historical attractions in Mount Pleasant include beautiful Boone Hall Plantation, which boasts one of the most spectacular avenues of moss draped live oaks in the South. The Charles Pinckney Historical Site dates to the Colonial period and the Historic Old Village, which is on the National Historic Register, is home to both colonial and antebellum period homes and several historic churches. Mount Pleasant also has wonderful restaurants, golf and shopping in antique stores and specialty boutiques. The town is home to the Patriots Point Navel and Maritime Museum and Shem Creek, called "the most picturesque waterway in the Lowcountry." Outdoor recreational activities are available at Palmetto Islands County Park and the nearby beaches of the Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island.

Mid-point, along the coastline of South Carolina, has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid and winters are mild. The area receives a significant amount of rainfall year-round. Summer is the wettest season with almost half the annual precipitation occurring during this time. Thunderstorms are possible in the spring and summer. Winters are short with occasional rain. Snow flurries are possible in the winter, but rare. Hurricanes are a major threat to this area during the summer and early fall. The most notable one in recent history was Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Plenty of warning is generally given to residents prior to hurricanes, giving them time to prepare.
